Life online isn’t like Field of Dreams – just because you built it doesn’t mean they will come. You need to find a way to attract visitors. In this series of posts we will give several strategies for driving traffic. Some might seem obvious (#1 in particular) but they still need to be said. Why? Because in our rush to build our dream, sometimes we forget about the basics.
Traffic Strategy #1 – Create Quality Content
I did say the first point was obvious, didn’t I? But as much as it seems straightforward, it can be forgotten. Once we sink our teeth into the process of creating our dream site it seems we have to create so much content. Nobody wants to launch a blog, for example, with one post. So we dash off a ton of content which sadly doesn’t represent our best work. And mediocre work is not going to drive traffic.
If you want people to come to your website, you need to give them a reason to come. You need to create awesome content that attracts people and that they feel compelled to share with others. If you simply post short, uninspired articles, you’re not giving people much reason to come to your site or share your content. For your best results, consider how you’re going to stand out from the crowd. How can you create content in a way that differentiates you from everyone else?
The best way to stand out from the crowd is to create highly valuable, in-depth content. Content that answers people’s questions and speaks to their pain points. Content that addresses a subject on a much deeper level than anything else out there. When creating content, ask yourself these questions:
- Would I want to read this content?
- Does this add value to my readers?
- Is this share-worthy?
- Is this different from all the other content that’s being produced?
- Does this content answer the reader’s questions?
- Does it speak the reader’s pain points?
Did you notice a recurring theme? These points all drive to the needs of the readers. If it doesn’t tell them something new, or something that they can’t get on a million other sites, why would they come back to your site? All traffic is good, but repeat traffic is great.
Now, every single post isn’t going to be some new revelation. It doesn’t work that way. I’m sure this isn’t the first time you have read some of the points in this very article. But do you have a spin, a twist, that can help your readers see it in a different way? Do you give them something actionable, something they can look at and say – yes, I can do that. Is your content something that will be worth searching for?
So, what is actionable about this article? Is there something here that can help the reader to create quality content? Yes – here it is: Start with PLR content.
How to Most Effectively Use PLR
PLR, or Private Label Rights, is essentially ghost written content for sale. Depending on the rights you purchase you can sell it as your own work, post it under your name, or in some cases even resell the right to sell it. Now my favorite type of PLR comes with permission to rewrite it.
Why on earth rewrite it? Because I want what I post to be mine. So I use PLR content as a starting point, as a springboard, or creative inspiration. Then I rewrite the content to suit my experience and my readers. I may keep some of the original article as is, or I might rewrite the whole thing, just using the article as an outline.
Using PLR content this way helps me to get out of writers block, it gets me un-stuck. I find a PLR article with the rights to rewrite, purchase it, and go to town. Sometimes a single article can form the basis for several.
Where to Get PLR Content
There are a lot of places you can get PLR content. The problem is – much of it is really overused. One great source is IDPLR – CLICK HERE. (Yes, this is an affiliate link, and yes, if you subscribe I get paid. I recommend affiliate marketing for others, it would be crazy if I didn’t use it. Especially when it is a win-win for me and my readers).
Regardless of how you generate your content, it needs to be your best. If it is, then all of your other traffic generation strategies will work that much better.
